Szczecin

Szczecin is the capital of the West Pomerania Province; about 400,000 people live here. Greenery and water shelter more than half of the city’s area. Szczecin is a modern city that allows its residents to live close to nature. The forests engulfing the city; parks and squares in its center; numerous islands of the middle Oder area, the canals and huge backwaters, they all give Szczecin a unique charm of a green, floating garden.
Szczecin is the sole Polish seaport that has waterway connections into European inland as well as to the Baltic Sea, through the Szczecin Lagoon. The proximity of nature does not mean that Szczecin does not focus on the development of modern technologies. The implementation of this goal has been used, among others at the Science and Technology Park of Szczecin.

Due to its cross-border location and the proximity of the Baltic Sea (65 km/46mi), accessible via the navigable Oder and the Szczecin Lagoon, Szczecin became the economic hub of the region. There is a seaport, repair, yacht, and shipyards. The city is a tourist center with a large number of monuments. It is an academic and cultural center (the opera and operetta houses, numerous theatres, museums and cultural centers); it is also the seat of the Archiepiscopal Curia and the Theological Faculty.
